Conceptualizing a keyword-based grammatical magic system for the tabletop RPG I’m still designing and trying to keep it from growing overly complex. Upper character limit for these asks prohibits a full run-through, but refer to Ars Magica’s system for the gist of the idea. Any helpful reading materials/suggestions?

Check out the sigilization work of AO SPARE, and then take a look at this work on Sigil Extension, here: http://niaskotl.tumblr.com/tagged/sigil+extension

In this system, the primary sigil acts as a “Home Term,” with associated connotations branching off of it. The same can be done with simple linguistics, and thought I can’t remember anything about it specifically, off the top of my head, something keeps telling me to tell you to look at John Dee’s Enochian Grammar.

Hebraic Gematria works really well as a basis for this, as well, ass it becomes a rules-governed mathematical system, wherein all you need to know is the concept you want to to covey, and some basic numerical designations: http://vimeo.com/86376888

That’s all I got off the top of my head, but I think it should be enough to get you started. 🙂
